Found this predatory thrips on the hop vines.  Plural or singular it’s thrips … one thrips, a million thrips.  Guessing it’s a Black Hunter Thrips (Leptothrips mali).  They prey on eggs, scale and small insects such as mites and other thrips.

The adult form of the Black Hunter Thrips and Greenhouse Thrips look similar.  A way to tell them apart is the Black Hunter Thrips is very active, whereas the Greenhouse Thrips is slower moving.  If you can find the young that’s another way to tell.  Young Black Hunter Thips are reddish brown and the Greenhouse Thrips are yellowish to whitish.
